Pankaj Tripathi film Ohh My Dog postponed; new release date in August

"Ohh My Dog," the Pankaj Tripathi‑starrer slice‑of‑life drama, was originally slated for a theatrical release on July 31. The film’s makers announced a last‑minute change, moving the debut to August 7, a decision made just days before the original date. The postponement was revealed by the film’s spokespersons on Monday morning, hours before the scheduled press show in Mumbai. While the team did not disclose a specific reason, they issued a statement apologising for the inconvenience and promising a rescheduled press screening for the following week.

The new release date coincides with the comedy “Aryabhatt Ka Zero,” which stars Himansh Kohli, Sonnalli Seygall, Ravi Kishan and Shilpa Shinde. Both films will hit screens on the same day, potentially dividing audience attention. The change means fans of Tripathi’s work will need to adjust their plans to catch the movie at the end of August.

Written and directed by Amit Rai, “Ohh My Dog” follows a courageous dog that helps expose a criminal racket. The story centres on the bond between a young child and his canine companion, exploring themes of love, friendship, kindness and compassion. The film’s trailer, released earlier in the month, highlighted a rising number of missing dogs in a particular area, hinting at a larger conspiracy. It also showcased scenes of dogs pursuing goons, underscoring the action‑driven elements of the plot.

In addition to Tripathi, the cast includes Pawan Malhotra, Maahi Rai, Rajesh Kumar, Geeta Agrawal, Vijay Mishra, Shreedhar Dubey, Bulloo Kumar and Sulakhyana Baruah. The production is a joint effort by Amit Rai, Rajesh Bhardwaj and Sana Warsi under the banners of Babulal Biscope and Thinking Hats Entertainment.

Director Amit Rai described the film as a narrative that resonates with families while promoting a message of kindness towards animals. "Dogs teach us the purest form of love and loyalty without expecting anything in return. Through Ohh My Dog, I wanted to tell a story that is emotional, entertaining, and meaningful for every family," he said. He added that if audiences leave with a bit more compassion for animals, the film will have fulfilled its purpose.
