Ranbir Kapoor's Ramayana Role Sparks Fan Theories; Lord Vishnu Casting Mystery

Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming portrayal of Lord Rama and Lord Parashurama in Nitesh Tiwari’s new Ramayana has already ignited a frenzy of speculation, not just about his dual roles but also about a fleeting glimpse of Lord Vishnu himself that appeared in the film’s trailer. The clip, released just before the Diwali 2026 launch, shows a brief, almost imperceptible shot of the supreme deity, prompting fans to question who will actually embody Vishnu on screen.

One theory circulating on social media points to Saurabh Raaj Jain, the actor who famously played Lord Krishna in the Mahabharat television series. A tweet from a user asked, “Is that Saurabh Raj Jain as Lord Vishnu in the Ramayana??” and another added, “The major plus point from the trailer Sourabh Raj Jain as Lord Vishnu. Can't wait for Mohit Raina as Shiva.” The suggestion hinges on Jain’s established presence in mythological roles, leading many to believe he could be the unseen Vishnu.

Conversely, another faction believes Kapoor will also portray Vishnu, citing his current dual roles. A fan on X noted, “This is a WIP visual. In reality, Lord Vishnu will look like Ranbir Kapoor by the time the movie releases. They rushed to get this shot completed, which is why it is looking like this.” Kapoor himself has confirmed that Vishnu has multiple avatars, including Rama and Parashurama, and that the film will reflect this multiplicity.

According to Hindu mythology, Parashurama is the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, followed by Rama as the seventh. The narrative in the trailer hints at the traditional conflict where Rama breaks Shiva’s bow during Sita’s swayamvar, a moment that historically pits the two avatars against each other before they reconcile. This storyline adds another layer to the casting mystery, as viewers wonder how the film will visually differentiate the avatars.

The project, a massive Indian production in post‑production, is set to be released in two parts: the first part is slated for Diwali 2026 and the second for Diwali 2027. In addition to Kapoor, the ensemble includes Sai Pallavi, Yash, Kunal Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Rakul Preet Singh, Lara Dutta, Indira Krishnan, Addinath Kothare, and Saurabh. The film’s promotional materials have already sparked extensive discussion on platforms like X, where fans dissect every frame for clues about the elusive Vishnu.
