Marvel Studios is reportedly tightening its roster for the upcoming X‑Men reboot, with English actor Kit Connor being considered for the iconic role of Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops. Connor, who rose to prominence as Nick Nelson in the Netflix series Heartstopper, has been spotted on the red carpet at the world premiere of the film Heartstopper Forever in central London on July 14, 2026. While the studio has yet to confirm the casting, reports from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline suggest that Connor was chosen after a series of meetings and auditions conducted by director Jake Schreier, known for his work on Thunderbolts.
The decision follows Disney’s 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox’s entertainment assets, which has allowed Marvel to re‑imagine the X‑Men team. Schreier, who was hired to helm the reboot, reportedly met with several actors before narrowing down his choice for Cyclops, ultimately settling on Connor after the July 4 holiday. The studio’s approach mirrors its strategy for other mutant roles, with Samara Weaving linked to Emma Frost and Sadie Sink slated to appear as Jean Grey in the MCU.
Connor’s potential entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes on the heels of his breakout performance and his recent film work, including a role in Alex Garland’s war drama Warfare and an upcoming project tied to the video game adaptation of Elden Ring. The actor’s transition to a high‑profile superhero franchise could signal a new direction for the X‑Men franchise, which has seen previous portrayals of Cyclops by James Marsden in the original trilogy and X‑Men: Days of Future Past, and by Tye Sheridan in the 2010s.
Marvel’s X‑Men reboot is gaining momentum as the studio builds a fresh team of mutants. The screenplay, written by Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear), is expected to explore new storylines while retaining core elements of the beloved characters. With the announcement of Connor’s potential casting and the confirmation of other key roles, the studio is poised to deliver a modern take on the classic mutant saga.
