BJP leader and veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on Thursday for a surgical procedure to remove a metal plate that had been implanted after a previous incident. The operation, carried out at the medical facility, was successful and the actor is now reported to be in stable condition.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari visited Chakraborty at the hospital on Friday morning, as confirmed by sources at the establishment. In a social media post, the chief minister wrote that he had spoken with the actor and inquired about his health, adding that he prayed for a speedy recovery.
This is the second time Adhikari has visited Chakraborty during his hospitalization. Earlier in 2024, the chief minister had met the actor after he underwent orthopedic surgery on his hand.
Chakraborty, who has been a prominent BJP leader in West Bengal, campaigned extensively for the party during the 2026 Assembly elections, which saw the BJP defeat the Trinamool Congress and form the state government.
With a film career spanning more than five decades, the actor has appeared in around 350 movies, primarily in Hindi and Bengali. He debuted with the art‑house drama Mrigayaa in 1976, earning his first National Film Award for Best Actor. His breakthrough came with the Bengali film Nadi Theke Sagare in 1978, and he achieved mass popularity with the 1982 hit Disco Dancer.
Chakraborty currently has two high‑profile projects lined up: the Sunny Deol‑starrer Batwara 1947 and Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2.
