A 41‑year‑old Mumbai Police constable, Ganesh Rayate, died while on guard duty outside Bollywood star Salman Khan’s Galaxy Apartments. The constable, who had been posted with LA‑4 of the Mumbai Police, reported feeling unwell around 6 pm on Friday and was rushed to Bhabha Hospital. He was declared dead on arrival, with officials suspecting a heart attack as the cause. A post‑mortem has been ordered to confirm the exact reason for his death.
Rayate’s death comes amid heightened security measures for Salman Khan. In 2024, the actor’s protection was upgraded to a Y‑plus level after the murder of his close friend and former Maharashtra minister, Baba Siddique. The new security arrangement includes personal security officers and a police escort vehicle that travels alongside Khan’s own car. The upgrade followed repeated threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, who also claimed responsibility for Siddique’s murder and are linked to the long‑running Black Buck case.
Earlier this year, in April, two men on motorcycles opened fire several times outside Khan’s residence, an incident that was traced back to the Lawrence Bishnoi network. The shooting prompted a police investigation and added to the concerns that prompted the Y‑plus security enhancement.
Salman Khan has addressed the media about the increased protection, saying, “God, Allah — it is all in His hands. One lives exactly as long as is ordained; that is all there is to it. Sometimes, having to move around with so many people becomes a problem.”
Looking ahead, Khan is set to appear in the patriotic war drama Maatrubhumi (formerly titled Battle of Galwan), directed by Apoorva Lakhia. He is also collaborating for the first time with Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally on an action film featuring Nayanthara and reportedly Jackie Shroff.
