AR Ameen and Khatija Rahman clarify Chennai accident; Ameen not driving

Playback singer AR Ameen, the son of legendary composer AR Rahman, was involved in a minor road incident in Chennai on Monday morning, sustaining only minor injuries. The accident, which took place near Guindy at about 3:30 a.m., was reported by police as a collision between a luxury SUV and a hatchback operated by a cab‑aggregator service. Both vehicles were seized, and all parties received basic first aid before being released.

Contrary to initial police statements that suggested Ameen was driving, the singer clarified his role in a post on Instagram Stories. He explained that he was seated in the passenger seat of a friend's car while they were en route to the airport. “Yesterday, on the way to the airport, I was in the passenger seat of my friend’s car when we got into a minor accident,” he wrote, adding that everyone involved was safe and expressing gratitude for the prayers and support he received.

His sister, singer‑composer Khatija Rahman, also addressed the incident on social media. She reiterated that Ameen was a passenger and that the collision occurred when a driver ahead of them entered the lane against a red signal. “Ameen was on his way to the airport, seated in the passenger seat, while his friend was driving,” she said, noting that all parties—Ameen, his friend, and the other vehicle’s occupant—were unharmed.

Both siblings urged the media and public to verify details with the family before reporting, to avoid unnecessary worry and distress. Police records confirm that no casualties were reported and that the incident involved only minor injuries to Ameen, his friend, and the hatchback driver. The case has been registered under the Motor Vehicle Act.
