Playback singer Rahul Sipligunj, who won Bigg Boss Telugu 3 and lent his voice to the Oscar‑winning track “Naatu Naatu” from RRR, has been booked on Thursday after a young woman filed a complaint alleging that he threatened her in a marriage‑related dispute. The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the MVP police station in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and the case has now been referred to the Women’s Police Station.
The complainant said she met a man named Karupurapu Rahul Reddy on the dating app Bumble last year, and that they began dating. Reddy allegedly used the pretext of marriage to become physically aggressive, and the woman claims that he, along with other relatives and friends—including Sipligunj—threatened her to “move on.” The complaint also names 16 individuals, including Sipligunj, his wife, and Reddy, and accuses them of blackmailing, threatening and harassing the woman. The police have filed the case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
In response to the news, Sipligunj posted a screenshot of a Mahaa News YouTube thumbnail that featured a Telugu proverb: “Rahul Siplugunj case. Uru lo pelli ki kukkala hadavidi ante ide emo,” translated as “A wedding is happening in the village, and the dogs are making all the fuss.” He added, “Happy to see that in today’s news. This is probably the best thumbnail I’ve seen so far, because it is very close to the truth. I’m not saying it is in my favour. I’m just saying it is nearly to the truth.” Sipligunj also promised a video explanation, which has not yet been released.
Police spokesperson ACP CH Ambedkar confirmed that the case involves threats to leak private pictures and videos of the complainant, and that investigations are underway. The FIR cites allegations of intimidation and forced video statements, claiming the woman’s honor and personal life were damaged. The case is currently under investigation by the Women’s Police Station.
