Production has begun on the next installment of India’s hit “Scam” franchise, with Sony LIV, Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment collaborating to bring “Scam 2010” to screens. National Award‑winning director Hans Mehta has taken the helm, promising a fresh yet familiar take on the saga that began with “Scam 1992.” The new series will chronicle the rise of a financial empire built on modest savings schemes, its meteoric expansion, and the public scrutiny that followed, delving into the ambition, influence and arrogance that shaped its trajectory.
Mehta, who has been a key creative force behind the franchise since its inception, said of the new chapter: “Scam 2010 is a story about ambition, influence and the arrogance that follows both. It looks at how one of India’s largest business empires was built on belief — and what happened when that belief ran out. It tells the fascinating story of the rise of an empire and the man who mistook it for invincibility.” His return is seen as a decisive factor in maintaining the series’ signature blend of real‑life complexity and intimate storytelling.
Deepak Segal, Chief Content Officer at Applause Entertainment, added that the franchise carries a responsibility beyond entertainment. “Scam has become much more than a franchise for us. The success of Scam comes with a lot of responsibility, as we are extremely conscious of the expectations that people have from us,” he said. Segal reflected on the impact of “Scam 1992,” noting that it arrived when the Indian streaming landscape was still finding its voice and became “one of the most loved and culturally resonant series to emerge from India.” He explained that the confidence gained from that success allowed the team to expand the anthology into a broader exploration of India’s history, where ambition, money, power and human nature collide.
Siddharth Bodke, who will portray the lead character, expressed excitement about the role’s depth. “What floored me was the complexity of the lead’s personality and the scale of the show,” Bodke said. “His passion, power, flaws, rise and eventual downfall make him an incredibly fascinating character to portray. The experience has been nothing short of thrilling for me, and I have relished the opportunity to play such a layered character under the guidance of someone like Hans Mehta.”
Produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment, “Scam 2010” is currently in production and is slated to stream exclusively on Sony LIV. Fans of the franchise can expect the same meticulous research and compelling narrative that made “Scam 1992” a cultural touchstone, now amplified by Mehta’s directorial vision and the ambitious storytelling ethos championed by the production houses.
