Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan’s upcoming feature, I'm Game, has been pushed back from its originally planned August 20 release to September 3, according to a post on the actor’s Instagram account. The change means the film will miss the coveted Onam holiday window, a period that often guarantees strong opening numbers for Malayalam releases.
In the Instagram caption, Salmaan explained that the delay will allow the production team to launch the movie on a larger scale and give audiences a better overall experience. He added that the extra time would help the film reach a broader audience across multiple markets. “The game gets bigger and the release gets wider,” he wrote, underscoring the intent to expand the film’s reach.
Directed by Nahas Hidhayath, who previously directed the road‑movie hit RDX, I'm Game will be released simultaneously in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. The plan is to open in theatres worldwide on September 3, taking the film beyond the Malayalam‑speaking audience to cinemas across India and overseas.
The decision to postpone was made with the aim of securing a larger release window and the reach the film deserves. While the move sacrifices the potential box‑office boost of an Onam launch, the makers believe that a wider release will ultimately benefit viewers in different regions who may otherwise miss the film in theatres.
Fans of Salmaan and Hidhayath’s work are expected to keep a close eye on the September date, as the film has already generated significant interest. The team’s promise that the “game” will be bigger when it hits screens on September 3 has set high expectations for the upcoming release.
