Pooja Bedi Ends 8-Year Engagement; No Longer Sees Need for Marriage

Actor Pooja Bedi has publicly announced that she will not marry her long‑time fiancé, Maneck Contractor, even though the pair have been engaged for eight years. In a recent interview with Vickey Lalwani on his YouTube channel, Bedi explained that her perspective on marriage has evolved over time and that the commitment she feels is already sufficient.

Bedi, who once held a strong belief in the institution of marriage, said that the engagement itself signals a desire to spend the rest of one’s life together as partners, lovers, and parents. She added that once that commitment is in place, “all you’re really doing is signing a piece of paper and getting the government involved in your affair.” The actress emphasized that the practical aspects of marriage—such as asset division and financial security—are straightforward for them because both she and Contractor are independently earning and already have children.

She reflected on her past experiences, noting that she has been married and divorced twice, with two children from her first marriage to businessman Farhan Furniturewala. Bedi stated that while the idea of marriage was initially appealing, the reality of what it would mean for their lives did not align with their vision. She clarified that she does not want to be “contracted to somebody” and that she has “been there, done that.”

Despite her personal choice, Bedi said she believes marriage is a wonderful space and that everyone should consider it. She also shared that she and Contractor met again after her divorce, reconnecting through an alumni WhatsApp group from their school, The Lawrence School, Sanawar. In 2019, Contractor proposed to her from a hot‑air balloon, an event she celebrated on Twitter with the caption, “He has literally swept me off my feet… I accepted Maneck Contractor’s proposal whilst sailing in a hot air balloon. Wish all of you a lifetime of happiness & to always dream of a rainbow at the end of a storm.”

Thus, while Pooja Bedi remains engaged to Maneck Contractor, she has decided that marriage is no longer necessary for their relationship, citing independence, shared values, and a mutual understanding that the commitment they already share is enough to sustain their partnership.
