On August 13, 2024, the film world marked what would have been the 63rd birthday of the late Indian actress Sridevi, who tragically passed away in 2018 at the age of 54. The actress, remembered for her charismatic screen presence and prolific career spanning three decades, was mourned by family, friends, and fans worldwide. Her niece, actress Maheswari, took to social media to honor the occasion, sharing a series of previously unseen photographs and heartfelt remarks.
Maheswari posted a reel filled with candid images that captured moments from Sridevi’s life, ranging from childhood to her later years. One shot shows a young Sridevi in a pattu saree, holding a bouquet, with a younger Maheswari standing beside her. Other pictures depict the pair laughing together at a table or Sridevi serving food in a traditional saree, complete with jewelry reminiscent of her character in the TV show “Malini Iyer.” The niece also showcased her own growth, posing alongside her aunt as an adult.
In her captions, Maheswari expressed deep affection for her aunt, writing, “Happiest birthday Pappakka…Miss you more…Love you more,” and adding heart emojis. She referred to Sridevi as her “backbone,” a sentiment she shared in a conversation with director D. C. about her own foray into fashion design in 2014. The niece’s tribute underscored the lasting influence Sridevi had on her life and career.
Maheswari’s own acting journey began at 17 with the 1994 Tamil film “Karuththamma,” and she later starred in the 1995 hit “Gulabi.” She stepped away from films in 2000 after the release of “Tirumala Tirupati Venkatesa,” married engineer Jayakrishna in 2008, and transitioned to television with the show “My Name is Manga Tayaru.” She also designed outfits for Sridevi, which appeared in advertisements and award shows.
The late actress’s death in February 2018 was the result of accidental drowning in a bathtub while attending her nephew Mohit Marwah’s wedding in the UAE. Sridevi’s passing left a void in the industry, but her legacy lives on through her daughters, Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor, who continue to act, and through Maheswari’s ongoing contributions to cinema and fashion.
