Emraan Hashmi has set a new benchmark for his career with the release of Awarapan 2, the sequel to the cult classic. The film opened on a Friday to an unprecedented performance, earning a net collection of ₹21 crore (₹25.20 crore gross) in India on its first day. This figure eclipses Hashmi’s previous best as a lead, which was ₹12.50 crore for Badshaho, and marks the first time an Emraan Hashmi lead film has crossed the ₹18 crore threshold in a single day.
Advance bookings alone pushed the film over ₹8 crore, a record for the actor and a key factor in the record‑breaking start. In tier‑2 and tier‑3 markets, the film achieved occupancy rates as high as 90% during Friday night shows, indicating a strong response outside the major metros. While the overseas performance was modest, with earnings mainly from the Middle East and North America, it still contributed more than $220,000, bringing the worldwide opening total to over ₹27 crore.
Comparisons to earlier installments highlight the scale of the achievement. Awarapan 2 surpassed the entire lifetime haul of the original film, which collected ₹13 crore, in less than a day. It also outperformed Murder, one of Hashmi’s most popular releases, which had netted ₹16 crore in India and ₹25 crore worldwide. The sequel’s first‑day numbers alone have exceeded those totals.
Directed by Nitin Kakkar and produced by Vishesh Bhatt, the movie reunites Hashmi with his iconic character Shivam Pandit. The cast also includes Shabana Azmi, Disha Patani, and Suvinder Vicky. Critics offered mixed to positive reviews, but the consensus praised Hashmi’s performance and the film’s overall tone.
Early reports suggest that day two could surpass the first day, potentially driving the film toward a ₹100 crore opening weekend. With such momentum, Awarapan 2 is poised to redefine Emraan Hashmi’s box‑office trajectory and set new standards for future releases.
