Daniel Fernandes Roasts Bhumi Pednekar Over Delhi Protest Remarks; Takes Aim at Bollywood's 'Culture' Hypocrisy

In a recent episode of celebrity sparring, actress Bhumi Pednekar drew fire after she publicly denounced the language used by protesters during a Delhi demonstration against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam leak. Pednekar, who had previously voiced support for the student‑led protest, took a different stance this time, calling the protesters’ abusive remarks toward Prime Minister Narendra Modi “not part of our culture.” Her comments sparked a backlash on social media, with many questioning her decision to criticize the demonstrators instead of standing with the students demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Comedian Daniel Fernandes seized the opportunity to roast Pednekar in a recent stand‑up set. Fernandes mocked her for “waking up one morning and deciding to be relevant again,” and suggested that Pednekar was using the protest as a platform to preach about cultural norms. He quipped that when people refuse to speak in a “culture” that he equated with “CONTROL,” they should consider whether they are “French” or simply trying to shame others. Fernandes also referenced actor Sudesh Berry’s bizarre remark about washing the Prime Minister’s feet, labeling it a misunderstanding of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Pednekar’s original clip, which circulated online last month, showed her saying, “Looking at the videos surfacing now, the kind of language being used, and the way the youth of our country are speaking—this isn’t how we talk, man. We are talking about someone who holds the highest office in the land today.” She added that abusive language was “wrong” and that a nation can only progress if its people discuss both flaws and strengths while staying true to their cultural values.

While Pednekar had previously appeared in the web series Daldal and the 2025 film M, her latest controversy highlights the fine line public figures walk when commenting on political protests. The backlash against her remarks underscores how quickly a single statement can ignite debate about patriotism, free expression, and the role of celebrities in social movements.
