She said she had spent considerable time preparing with her house help and her mother, focusing on décor and a festive menu that showcased both classic Parsi dishes and a few Persian twists.
Sutaria described the décor process, noting her love for flowers and fruit arrangements that adorn the tablescape. She added that the centerpiece of the celebration is a “ses” – a silver platter similar to a Hindu pooja thali – where a lamp, rice, tika, and a fish‑shaped item are placed. The fish, a symbol of prosperity in Parsi culture, is a recurring motif in the food served during Navroz, and the actress confirmed that her family prepares a dish called “lagan nu bhonu,” a wedding‑feast style meal, even though the occasion is a New Year celebration.
When asked about the menu, Sutaria revealed that this year’s spread includes a dessert called mawa‑ni‑boi, a fish‑shaped sweet wrapped in silver foil. She also mentioned Persian‑inspired dishes such as saffron rice with zereshk berries and lamb shanks, alongside traditional Parsi fare. The actress emphasized that the food is a key element of the festival, noting that many people are unfamiliar with the Parsi community but are drawn to its “sweetness” and love for food.
Beyond the culinary delights, Sutaria highlighted the importance of family time during Navroz. She shared that she and her twin sister Pia often travel to different parts of the world, making the New Year a special occasion for the family to reunite. She admitted that she no longer lives with her parents, so this year’s celebration felt extra meaningful. “The perfect Navroz celebration would be eating, drinking, just having a good time together,” she said, underscoring the joy of gathering with loved ones.
