Cinema VinesSinger Sukriti Kakar announced her engagement to Mumbai entrepreneur Shoumik Shetty on Instagram, revealing that the couple had kept their five‑year romance out of the spotlight until the moment felt right. The pair tied the knot in Tuscany on July 31, choosing the Italian countryside as the backdrop for their secret‑keeping celebration. In the post, Kakar explained that privacy had never meant shielding the relationship from family or close friends; rather, it was about protecting what mattered from unwanted attention.
“When we got into this, and we were starting to pursue it, we were very clear that we hold this relationship with a lot of pride. And when the right time comes, which is, of course, now, after all of these years, that would be the right announcement,” she said. Kakar added that she believes in protecting personal matters from unnecessary scrutiny and even mentioned the importance of “nazar.” The couple emphasized that keeping their romance private helped them maintain a clear boundary between their professional lives, stating that early exposure could have detracted from their work.
The romance began five years ago when a mutual friend introduced the two at Soho House in Mumbai. Kakar recalled that the venue was a sweet coincidence, as her twin sister, playback singer Prakriti Kakar, had also met her husband there. Shoumik remembered seeing Sukriti perform for the first time at a members‑only event at Julie’s in Mumbai, where he was quietly watching her performance while her family was present, unaware of their budding relationship.
Shoumik described Sukriti as “bubbly, feminine, and the life of the party,” noting that their differing personalities and professions have actually worked in their favour. He said, “I was blown away by the performance, that much for sure.” The couple has revealed plans for a “two‑states” wedding, hinting at a destination celebration that will span multiple locations.
