Saiyami Kher is set to return to the International Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) on August 16 for the world premiere of her new film, Pal Bhar Ke Liye. The Hindi drama, directed by first‑time filmmaker Vikram Phadnis—who has spent 35 years as a fashion designer—also features Tahir Raj Bhasin and Vineet Kumar Singh in key roles.
In an interview with the Hindustan Times, Kher reflected on her earlier IFFM experience with Ghoomer, the film that opened the festival. She said that the previous outing felt rushed, as the screening was followed by a flight back home just three days before the Indian release. This time, however, she feels the festival is a relaxed, immersive event where she can watch other films and attend screenings without the pressure of a tight schedule.
Pal Bhar Ke Liye centres on an ambitious fashion photographer, a character Kher portrays with depth and nuance. She explained that the story follows her protagonist’s sudden downfall and the subsequent realization of the importance of relationships and family—hence the title, which translates to “life changes in a split second.” Kher praised her co‑stars, noting that both Bhasin and Singh play pivotal parts that enrich the narrative.
Speaking about the film’s emotional impact, Kher said that Pal Bhar Ke Liye challenged her in ways Ghoomer did not. She described the script as “very emotional” and said it forced her to slow down and reflect on her own life, making her both overwhelmed and deeply moved. The role, she added, is layered and demanded a different kind of intensity from her as an actor.
Looking ahead to the premiere, Kher expressed excitement at seeing the film screened for the public for the first time. She described the experience as “nervous excitement” and said it felt special to share her work with a wider audience. The IFFM screening on August 16 marks a significant milestone for the film’s journey and for Kher’s career as she continues to take on challenging roles.
