Tom Holland's 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' continues to defy gravity at the North American box office, pulling in a staggering $70 million in ticket sales during its third weekend on the big screen, according to industry estimates.
The superhero film, which boasts an all-star cast including Tom Holland and real-life partner Zendaya, has now raked in over $2 billion globally since its release on July 31, solidifying its position as Sony Pictures' highest-grossing film of all time, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
Marking a major milestone for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' has become the biggest debut weekend of all time at the domestic box office, with an impressive $360 million haul that surpasses Disney's 2019 blockbuster 'Avengers: Endgame' on a non-adjusted-for-inflation basis.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film follows Peter Parker as he navigates the challenges of living in isolation after erasing his identity and struggles to reconnect with his loved ones, including his ex-girlfriend MJ and best friend Ned, while facing a new threat to the city of New York.
Rounding out the top five at the box office, Christopher Nolan's epic 'The Odyssey' brought in $23.2 million domestically for Universal in its fifth weekend on screen, while Warner Bros.' sci-fi thriller 'The End of Oak Street', starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, earned $21 million in its opening weekend.
Paramount's animated film 'Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie' also made a strong debut, hoovering up an estimated $20.5 million, while the documentary 'Katseye: Wild Hearts' about the pop girl group of the same name earned $3.6 million for Trafalgar Releasing on its opening weekend.
According to industry analyst David A. Gross, the box office remains strong, despite the typical slowdown that occurs during the second half of August as kids return to school.
As the year draws to a close, 2026 is shaping up to be a record-breaking year for Hollywood, with business remaining extremely strong and no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
The top 10 films at the box office this weekend also included 'SIX The Musical Live!', 'The Brink of War', 'Toy Story 5', 'One Night Only', and 'Your Name. 10th Anniversary', further solidifying the dominance of the film industry in 2026.
