Akshay Kumar’s ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ lands on JioHotstar; chaos unleashed online

After a successful theatrical run, the comedy blockbuster Welcome to the Jungle, starring Akshay Kumar, has officially become available on JioHotstar, allowing fans to enjoy the chaotic ensemble from home.

The streaming debut was confirmed by JioHotstar’s official Instagram account on August 21, when a promotional poster appeared with the caption, “This chaos? Too junglee to miss! #WelcomeToTheJungle, now streaming on #JioHotstar.” The film premiered on the platform roughly eight weeks after its June 26 release in cinemas, following the standard digital window for Hindi releases.

Before hitting the OTT platform, the movie had a strong box‑office showing. Within five days of opening, it surpassed the worldwide lifetime collection of the original 2007 film, eventually grossing ₹192.75 crore worldwide. According to tracker Sacnilk, the domestic net haul was ₹134.11 crore, while the gross in India reached ₹159.15 crore.

Director Ahmed Khan assembled one of the largest casts in recent Hindi cinema, bringing 34 actors together. The film is led by Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal, and also features Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Jackie Shroff, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Farida Jalal, Johny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Rajpal Yadav, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Aftab Shivdasani, Mukesh Tiwari, Yashpal Sharma, Kiran Kumar, Zakir Hussain, Vindu Dara Singh, Urvashi Rautela, Hemant Pandey, Brijendra Kala, Feroze Khan (as Arjun), the late Pankaj Dheer, Puneet Issar, Sudesh Berry, Jeetu Verma, Vrihi Kodvara and Bhagya Bhanushali.

The storyline follows a businessman who deposits his black money into a film project, expecting it to flop. Instead, a jungle‑shooting set is mistaken for a real military operation, sparking a chain of misunderstandings, action sequences and comic chaos that escalates as the characters dig deeper into the mess.

A review in the Hindustan Times noted, “Overall, not every film needs to be profound. Some just need to entertain. Welcome To The Jungle understands that assignment from the outset and, despite an average finale, delivers enough laughs to make the ride worthwhile.”

With its release on JioHotstar, viewers can now indulge in the franchise’s trademark humor and ensemble spectacle without leaving their living rooms.
