In the months leading up to the release of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming film Spirit, rumours swirled after Bollywood star Deepika Padukone announced her departure. While the actress’s camp said the producers would not accommodate her request for fixed working hours, the makers replaced her with Triptii Dimri.
Sandeep’s brother, Pranay Reddy Vanga, told NTV Telugu that the real cause was Deepika’s demand to receive 10 percent of the movie’s profits. He added that remuneration and scheduling were the primary issues, and hinted at other factors that were not disclosed.
Pranay further explained that once the team began exploring alternatives, rumours started to leak. He said the producers were willing to meet her demands, but the economics of the project could not sustain the requested share. He described the situation as “overboard” and said the budget had to make sense for the film.
Deepika’s representatives have not yet commented on the allegations, leaving the situation unresolved.
The actress also missed out on the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. Vyjayanthi Movies issued a statement on X confirming that Deepika would not appear in the follow‑up, citing a lack of partnership and the need for greater commitment from the star.
