Kunal Kemmu’s ‘Vibe’ Teaser Turns Him Into an Accidental Spy; Nation’s Fate in His Hands

Kunal Kemmu is back on the big screen with a fresh caper comedy that turns the actor‑director‑producer into an accidental spy. The new film, titled Vibe, follows the story of two hapless friends who stumble upon a terrorist conspiracy and are thrust into the role of national saviors, despite having no prior experience in espionage.

The teaser, released last Friday, sets the tone with a tongue‑in‑cheek tagline: “When the nation is under threat, heroes stand up from within, some heroes are born, some heroes are trained and some heroes are kidnapped…” It shows Kemmu’s character and his friend, played by Sparsh Shrivastava—known for her work in the web series Laapataa Ladies—being kidnapped and subsequently recruited by a mysterious operative played by Preity Zinta. The scene ends with Kemmu’s character jokingly asking Zinta to send him “spies like Tiger and Pathaan,” a playful nod to Salman Khan’s Tiger and Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan.

In the teaser, Kemmu’s character awkwardly attempts a range of spy tasks, delivering a series of comic mishaps that hint at the film’s blend of action, humor and self‑aware Bollywood references. The final line of the teaser includes a witty reference to Bobby Deol’s Soldier, adding another layer of Bollywood humor to the narrative.

According to the official synopsis, the plot centers on two friends who can barely manage their own lives until they accidentally uncover a terrorist plot and are suddenly forced to save the nation. The film is written, directed and starred by Kemmu, and produced in partnership with Chirag Nihalani under the banner Drongo Films. The cast also features debutante Vanshika Dhir in a lead role, with supporting performances from Dinesh Lal Yadav and Yashpal Sharma.

Amazon MGM Studios has taken a theatrical bet on Vibe, with the studio handling both cinema distribution and exclusive content for Prime Video and the MGM+ pay‑TV network. The studio also plans to release the Indian fantasy family entertainer Nayyi Navelli, starring Yami Gautam Dhar, in cinemas this October for the Dussehra festival period.

Having directed his debut film Madgaon Express in 2024—which was a box‑office hit and earned praise for its humor and ensemble cast—Kemmu is now juggling multiple roles in Vibe. The new project promises a mix of comedy, action and espionage, with Kemmu’s character serving as an unlikely hero caught up in a situation far beyond his capabilities.
