Ranveer Singh’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, has turned to the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) after the actor’s exit from the highly‑anticipated film Don 3 triggered a dispute with its makers. Bhavnani met with IMPPA representatives on Tuesday and handed over documents that outline Ranveer’s perspective on the situation, prompting the association’s legal team to review the material before deciding on a course of action.
The core of the conflict lies in Excel Entertainment’s demand for roughly ₹45 crore in damages. The production house alleges that Ranveer’s decision to withdraw came just before the film was slated to begin shooting, causing significant pre‑production losses and other financial setbacks. Excel, headed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, has pursued this claim through industry bodies, including the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which issued a non‑cooperation directive against Ranveer in May 2026.
IMPPA President Abhay Sinha has indicated that Ranveer’s legal team is ready to engage in the proceedings. With submissions now on both sides, the association is expected to assess the evidence and determine whether the matter can be settled internally or requires further legal intervention.
Ranveer was originally announced as the new lead for Don 3 in August 2023, stepping into a role previously held by Shah Rukh Khan. However, reports of his withdrawal surfaced shortly thereafter, escalating the dispute. While the financial claim remains unresolved, the actor has already begun shooting for the zombie thriller Pralay, directed by Jai Mehta and starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, which has recently commenced production in Mumbai.
As the industry watches the unfolding drama, the outcome of IMPPA’s review could set a precedent for how high‑profile contract disputes are handled within Bollywood’s self‑regulatory framework.
