During a pre‑release screening of the upcoming Yash‑starrer Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown‑Ups, a sudden collapse of a DJ speaker stand sent a wave of panic through the crowd at the Malla Reddy Group of Institutions in Hyderabad’s Medchal‑Malkajgiri district on Saturday. The incident occurred when several fans had climbed onto the stand, some even performing stunts, causing the structure to lose its balance and fall. The fall injured several spectators, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Actor Yash, who was speaking on stage, immediately paused his remarks upon learning of the mishap. He asked the organisers to attend to the injured fans first, saying, “Are they okay? Please check.” After ensuring that the situation was under control, he resumed the event, but only after urging other fans to dismount from the speaker stands for their safety.
The collapse was captured on video by attendees and later shared on social media, sparking widespread concern over venue safety. Cyberabad Police confirmed that the collapse was triggered by fans climbing onto the stand to get a better view, and that the incident had been reported to authorities at the scene.
Despite the disruption, the pre‑release event continued with the presence of the film’s cast, including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi. Toxic, produced by KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on August 26. The film has already garnered significant buzz, with advance bookings generating ₹18 crore on the first day of sales.
Fans and organisers alike are calling for stricter safety protocols at future events, as the incident highlights the risks of overcrowding and inadequate staging. The film’s trailer, released earlier this month, showcases its larger‑than‑life gangster narrative, exploring themes of love, power, betrayal, and redemption, while also delving into the relationship between a character named Raya and his son.
