Suchitra Mohanlal says she chose her star husband; she reveals how the marriage began

In a candid interview with Can Channel Media, actress Suchitra Mohanlal revealed that she was the one who first expressed interest in marrying the celebrated actor Mohanlal. The couple’s romance began when the two met at a wedding where their families were already acquainted. According to Suchitra, she approached Mohanlal as a fan, even managed to snap a photo with him—though she has never received a copy of that picture.

After the encounter, she told her family that she wanted to marry the superstar. Her parents did not object, and she suggested that the proposal be forwarded through actor Sukumari, a friend of her father. Suchitra recalled that her father had cautioned her about the challenges of marrying into the film industry, noting that Mohanlal’s shooting schedules could keep him away from home for several days. He advised her to think carefully and warned that he would not take her back home if she returned upset about the difficulties of being married to an actor.

Despite the long hours and time apart, Suchitra says she has no complaints about Mohanlal as a husband. She accepts the occasional days of separation as part of his profession and appreciates the respect he gives her. She also shared an amusing anecdote about a conversation between her father and Mohanlal after the wedding. Her father reportedly told the actor that he was spoiling her by taking such good care of her. Mohanlal replied, asking whether he should not take care of her as well, or even better than her father had.
