Harshvardhan Rane likens acting to stock market; renewed buzz from 2016 hit

In an interview with PTI, Mumbai‑based actor Harshvardhan Rane drew a striking parallel between the unpredictable world of cinema and the stock market, saying that an actor’s standing in the film industry depends on box‑office performance and fluctuates with public sentiment.

Rane, who first appeared on television in the show "Left Right Left" before moving into Telugu and Hindi films such as "Thakita Thakita", "Naa Ishtam", "Haseen Dillruba" and "Tara vs Bilal", highlighted the 2016 romantic drama "Sanam Teri Kasam" as a turning point. The film, which had a theatrical re‑release in 2025, gained renewed popularity and helped lift Rane’s career momentum.

Speaking about the ups and downs of his profession, Rane said, "The stock of gold has risen after three to four months, and life is like stocks; when the stocks are rising, it is very mathematical. I don't hold it personally. If you ignore me tomorrow, I'll work harder, and if you give me more work, I'll work even harder." He added that even when opportunities are scarce, they fuel his determination to work harder.

Rane is currently set to appear as an antagonist in John Abraham’s "Force 3" and in Ram Gopal Varma’s "Daya Nayak". He recalled a long‑ago encounter with Abraham, noting that he once delivered a helmet to the actor in 2004 and now shares the screen with him in the new film. He expressed gratitude for the unexpected twists in his career, saying, "When people say that Chat GPT and Claude and all the AI apps are taking over, I challenge you, if you ask for the weirdest full story, they won't be able to write something as wild as this."

On working with Varma, Rane described the director as a constant source of challenge, praising his ability to surprise audiences and push actors out of their comfort zones. He also mentioned completing work on Omung Kumar’s romance‑action movie "Sailaab". The actor’s recent projects and his reflective outlook underscore a career that, like the stock market, is subject to market sentiment yet driven by resilience and hard work.
