When a contestant asked whether his wife scolds him for arriving home late, Bachchan shared an endearing routine that keeps their household running smoothly and prevents any late‑night reproaches.
According to Bachchan, the key to avoiding a scolding is preparation. He explains that as soon as he wakes, he sends a group message to all family members, greeting them with a polite “Namaskar” and informing them that he will be late due to a shoot. By notifying everyone in advance, he ensures that no one waits for him at dinner, thereby sidestepping Jaya’s potential frustration. He added, “If I didn’t tell her, she would ask, ‘Where were you? You didn’t inform us. Is this the time to come home?’ And if I’m very late, she might even finish her dinner and go to bed.”
Bachchan also revealed his involvement in household chores when the staff are away. He said, “Whether there are four, eight, or ten staff members, when no one is home, I take care of everything. I don’t know how to cook, so sometimes we order food, or I ask Jaya, ‘Deviji, please make something.’ That excites her, and she prepares different dishes for me every day and asks how I liked them.”
The couple’s love story dates back to the early 1970s. They first met on the sets of the film Guddi in 1971, with Jaya drawn to Amitabh’s charisma. Their romance blossomed during the shoot of Ek Nazar in 1972. After the success of Zanjeer in 1973, they planned a holiday to London. When Amitabh sought his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s permission, his father stipulated that they must marry before traveling together. The pair complied, having a quick, private wedding on June 3, 1973, and then departed for London the same day.
Today, the Bachchans have two children, Shweta and Abhishek, and three grandchildren—Navya Naveli Nanda, Agastya Nanda, and Aaradhya Bachchan.
