While advance bookings across India have surged, the ticket sales portal for the southern region remains closed, leaving fans in the area in a state of uncertainty.
Industry insiders say the hold‑up stems from a clash over screen time with the Ravi Teja‑starrer Irumudi, which hit theatres on August 21 and is still running strongly. Mythri Movie Makers, the distributors of Irumudi, insist that the film deserves ample single‑screen and multiplex showings because of its high demand. In contrast, Sri Venkateswara Creations, the distributors of Toxic, have requested that all single‑screen slots be allocated to their film and that a significant portion of multiplex screens be reserved for it.
According to a trade source in the south, Irumudi has performed impressively: Rs. 12.12 crore on its opening day, Rs. 12.75 crore on Saturday, Rs. 15.82 crore on Sunday, and an unexpected Rs. 10.25 crore on Monday, bringing its four‑day total to nearly Rs. 51 crore. The film’s success has bolstered Ravi Teja’s career after a stretch of less profitable releases.
Both sets of distributors are reportedly working to resolve the scheduling dispute. A source said that the show plans for Wednesday will be finalized within the next few hours and that bookings for Toxic will open shortly thereafter. The situation has sparked a scramble among theatre owners and fans alike, as they await confirmation of the final screening schedule.
With the release date just 24 hours away, the industry watches closely to see whether a compromise can be reached that satisfies both parties and ensures that Toxic gets the screen time it demands while Irumudi continues its successful run.
