Cinema VinesGeetu Mohandas’s film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown‑Ups opened in theatres on Wednesday, but it received a lukewarm response from both critics and the public. The production company, KVN Productions LLP, had already secured an ex‑parte temporary injunction from a Bengaluru court on August 22, ordering that no false or defamatory content about the film be published or circulated. The injunction was specifically aimed at preventing negative coverage that could harm the film’s opening weekend.
Just a day after the release, YouTuber Suraj Kumar posted a screenshot of a legal notice he received from Aiplex Software Private Limited, a company that represents KVN Productions. The notice, addressed to “Sir/Madam,” read: “We issue this notice on behalf of our client, KVN Monster Mind Creations LLP, the producer and copyright owner of the cinematograph film titled ‘Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown‑ups’.” It added that Kumar had published a review of the film and listed the URL of his video. Despite the notice, the review video remains online.
The letter from Aiplex also detailed the firm’s authority to issue takedown notices, de‑indexing requests, blocking requests, and other enforcement actions on behalf of the producers from July 13 to September 26. Kumar, who shared the screenshot on X (formerly Twitter), wrote, “Thank You Team #Toxic For the Legal Notice on My Review.”
This is not the first time the film’s team has used Aiplex’s services. Earlier this year, Telugu YouTuber Sushant, who runs the channel Barbell Pitch Meetings, accused the same firm of misusing copyright strikes and legal notices to suppress critical reviews during key opening weekends.
The court’s injunction, issued by the Additional City Civil and Sessions Court, was a response to a suit filed by KVN Productions against several defendants, including X Corp. and a “John Doe” defendant representing unknown parties. The order is temporary and will remain in force until the next hearing date on September 28, and it can only be used for the specific purpose of preventing defamatory content about the film.
