Cinema VinesOn Thursday, Bollywood composer and singer Amaal Mallik surprised his fan base by announcing a temporary withdrawal from film music, stating that he will not take on any new film projects until the following year. The decision comes after a recent string of releases, most notably the hit track “Yeh Awarapan” for the film Awarapan 2, which stars Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi. Mallik took to the platform X (formerly Twitter) to explain that he needs time to focus on his mental, physical and emotional well‑being.
In his post, Mallik wrote, “I am all good & I will go all the way in, this time, to do what is best for me & only do what is important to my heart & for my health. Need a break for my mind, body, soul and overall physical healing. Need to rise, recuperate and bounce back soon with a heart full of melodies for you all my dearest #Amaalians ♥️.” He added a plea for fans not to pester him, noting that any unreleased film songs would be shared only if the projects eventually get released. Mallik also hinted at a return to music, saying, “Music se cinema tak ka safar mujhe bohot door le aaya hai, ab music ki taraf wapas chalne laga hoon (From music to films, the journey has taken me far and I am going towards music now).”
The announcement follows a May confrontation in which Mallik accused unnamed powerful figures in the film and music industry of sidelining him, claiming they had removed him from over fifty projects. He expressed frustration that these “powerful people” not only blocked his participation in films but also threatened him and his family. Mallik said, “I'm trying my best for the last 8 years, with utmost sincerity & obviously some respectful terms & conditions of working but sadly it doesn't work for this place. Plus my inability to hide the truth about this place and its workings irks them further and leads to pointless threats to me and family.”
Born into a musical dynasty, Mallik is the son of composer Daboo Malik and nephew of Anu Malik. He made his Bollywood debut with Salman Khan’s Jai Ho in 2014 and rose to prominence with “Sooraj Dooba Hai” from Roy in 2015. His portfolio includes scores for Hero, Airlift, Kapoor & Sons, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kabir Singh and Vedaa, and he has also lent his voice to several of his own compositions. Mallik has previously released indie singles, but he now focuses on his well‑being before deciding on future projects.
