The siblings, both children of Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon, spoke candidly about how the holiday has evolved from a simple family gathering to a meaningful reminder of mutual support and protection, especially now that Ranbir is studying abroad in London.
Rasha reflected on the tradition’s deeper significance, saying, “Earlier Raksha Bandhan used to be a means of getting together with family and celebrating, but now I understand the true meaning of it. It’s about knowing we both would always be there for each other and protect one another, especially after him having moved to London for studies.” She added that her mother has always emphasized their bond, noting that Raveena Tandon once told Ranbir, “When she isn’t around, I am his sister‑mumma.”
In his first ever interview, Ranbir shared how Rasha has been his protector and caretaker. He explained that she constantly worries about him and helps solve his problems, describing her as “very protective.” He added a playful touch to the day, saying he now touches Rasha’s feet as a joke to tease her about growing up. “It’s a big part of the Indian culture but I do it as a bit of a joke, showing that she is growing so old,” he laughed.
Despite the distance, Rasha expressed pride in Ranbir’s independence and resilience. “I’m proud of him, no matter what he does. The fact that he’s even there studying abroad alone with us not being there with him every day, I don’t think I would be able to do that. I always need emotional support and some sort of familial connection with me. But he’s so independent and really strong,” she said. Ranbir echoed this sentiment, revealing that he misses the simple moments of conversation with his sister: “I just miss having someone who I can go and sit with, and just talk about the little things without any consequences. I miss my sister.”
Growing up under the spotlight of their mother’s fame, the siblings credit Raveena Tandon for shielding them from the intense scrutiny that often accompanies celebrity families. Rasha noted that their school life was relatively normal, free from the constant paparazzi presence that many other children of actors experience. “We got lucky to live a life where not everyone was like, ‘oh you are your celeb mom’s children,’” she said. Ranbir added that being used to having a family member with a fan following has made it easier to handle Rasha’s own popularity, and he remains focused on their sibling relationship rather than external attention.
