Cinema VinesGeetu Mohandas’s latest venture, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown‑Ups, opened on Wednesday to a record opening in India, pulling in more than ₹101 crore in net box‑office receipts on its first day. The film, which stars Yash in the lead alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi and Akshay Oberoi, surpassed the opening of Dhurandhar: The Revenge and set high expectations for a blockbuster run.
However, the momentum faltered almost immediately. By Thursday, collections had dropped to ₹37.65 crore, a 62.8% decline from day one. Friday’s takings fell further to ₹27.20 crore, and Saturday’s net was ₹25.15 crore. Sunday’s earnings, recorded at ₹18.37 crore by 8:30 pm, continued the downward trend, leaving the film’s daily revenue in steady decline.
Despite the drop, Toxic has crossed the ₹200 crore net threshold in India, with a total net collection of ₹211.03 crore and a gross of ₹251.77 crore as of Sunday night. The film ran across 15,436 shows, with Hindi screenings leading at 11,210 shows and earning ₹12.37 crore, while the Kannada version added ₹6.12 crore from 1,294 shows. Tamil and Telugu versions contributed ₹49 lakh and ₹95 lakh respectively.
In comparison to recent releases, Toxic has earned less than half of Yash’s previous hit, KGF Chapter 2, which amassed ₹430.15 crore in its first five days. Yet it has outperformed the lifetime net collections of Suriya’s Karuppu (₹198.18 crore) and Vijay’s Jana Nayagan (₹198.22 crore), according to Sacnilk.
While the film’s opening day was a triumph, its rapid decline highlights the challenges of sustaining audience interest in a crowded market. Geetu Mohandas’s direction and the star‑studded cast have drawn crowds, but the story’s reception and competition from other releases may have tempered its long‑term earnings potential.
