Cinema VinesOn Saturday, August 29, Bollywood Hungama announced that the new gangster‑drama Mirzapur The Movie has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film’s running time, as stated on the certificate, is 197.19 minutes – a little over three hours and 17 minutes. The certification came after the CBFC imposed a series of cuts and edits to the original version.
The board’s revisions focused on language, caste references, and intimate content. Cuss words were muted in four separate instances, while six other abusive phrases were replaced with “appropriate” alternatives. The dialogue “Galey se lag gar” was also altered. In the first half, a particular word was swapped for “kamar,” and in the post‑interval section, the slur “lanth” (meaning idiot) was modified. A caste reference was similarly changed to remove any potentially offensive content.
Visually, the CBFC required the filmmakers to cut 35 seconds of intimate scenes, effectively trimming half of the original material in two separate scenes – one in the first half and another in the second half. These cuts were achieved through modifications to both visuals and sound. Notably, no violent or gory scenes were censored, indicating that the board’s concerns were primarily linguistic and contextual.
The certification was granted by the CBFC’s Revising Committee after the Examining Committee had requested the changes. The Revising Committee’s approval finalised the certification process, allowing the film to be released on September 4. The movie features a star‑studded cast that includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Mohitt Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Shweta Tripathi, Sonal S Chauhan, Anangsha Biswas, Shaji Choudhary, Sushant Singh, and Ravi Kishan.
With the certificate secured and the final edits in place, Mirzapur The Movie is set to hit theatres on September 4, offering fans a new chapter in the popular crime saga while adhering to the CBFC’s guidelines.
