In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, actor Akshay Oberoi reflected on his career trajectory and shared his excitement about working with Shah Rukh Khan and director Siddharth Anand on the upcoming film King. Oberoi, who has been steadily building his filmography, highlighted his recent role as a gangster named Tony in Geetu Mohandas’ Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown‑Ups, calling it one of the biggest projects of his career.
Oberoi explained that his casting in Toxic stemmed from his performance in the 2024 film Fighter, which caught the attention of producer Geetu Mohandas. He praised the film as a pivotal moment that brought mainstream recognition after years of working in smaller roles. “I’m in Toxic because of him, because Geetu saw me in Fighter,” he said, adding that Siddharth Anand’s faith in him was a key factor in his career growth.
While Oberoi has yet to share the screen with Shah Rukh Khan in King, he described their off‑screen interactions on set. “He comes to the set even when he isn’t shooting,” Oberoi noted. “He’s what everyone says he is—one of the kindest, gentlest people. In five minutes, he’s talking to you like you’re his buddy.” He emphasized that Khan’s natural warmth is genuine and not a performance, expressing admiration for the superstar’s approachable personality.
Oberoi also expressed deep gratitude toward Siddharth Anand, saying he would “jump off a cliff for that man.” He recalled how Anand’s trust and support propelled him from independent projects to high‑profile films. “I’d jump off a cliff for that man,” he repeated, underscoring the profound impact Anand has had on his professional life.
Looking back, Oberoi admitted early frustration with the lack of visibility for his work. He described a period of uncertainty, wondering when his “number” would come. Over time, however, he noted that audiences and critics began to recognize his earlier performances, attributing this shift to a “universe at play” and a changing industry landscape. He concluded that his current success is the result of relentless effort and that he feels ready to pursue even larger roles in the future.
