Cinema VinesAmazon MGM Studios and Drongo Films are gearing up to drop the first look of Kunal Kemmu’s upcoming spy‑comedy Vibe. The teaser, which already sparked curiosity with its off‑beat premise, has set the stage for a trailer that is expected to reveal more about the film’s oddball mission involving two reluctant spies, played by Kemmu himself and Sparsh Shrivastava.
Adding to the buzz, veteran actress Sharmila Tagore is slated to appear in a special cameo. Tagore, who is Kunal Kemmu’s mother‑in‑law, will return to Hindi cinema after a three‑year hiatus, her last Hindi outing being the 2010 romantic comedy Break Ke Baad. While she had a recent screen appearance in the Bengali psychological drama Puratawn, her next big‑screen role will be in Vibe, scheduled for theatrical release on 18 September. This marks her first Hindi film in 16 years.
Tagore’s involvement is particularly noteworthy as it represents her first collaboration with Kemmu, who has already made a name for himself behind the camera with the 2024 directorial debut Madgaon Express. In Vibe, he steps into the lead role while also serving as writer, director and, for the first time, producer alongside Chirag Nihalani under their banner Drongo Films.
The teaser introduced Preity Zinta as a government official who kidnaps two clueless friends and recruits them for a national mission. Kemmu’s character, however, is hesitant to become a spy and even pokes fun at Zinta’s 1998 action thriller Soldier, starring Bobby Deol. The film promises a blend of humor and espionage, with Tagore’s cameo adding a touch of star power.
With Tagore’s return, the film also highlights her rare on‑screen partnership with her daughter Soha Ali Khan, a collaboration that has only happened once before in the 2009 English‑language drama Life Goes On. Tagore has also shared the screen with her son Saif Ali Khan in the 2007 film Eklavya. Fans of the Tagore family and Kemmu’s work alike will be keen to see how these dynamics play out on the big screen.
