The 38‑year‑old composer, Jonathan Melendez, was known for playing keyboards with the indie rock band Camilo Septimo. His wife, Ana Paola, was about four months pregnant at the time of the attack. The family’s 6‑year‑old son was discovered at the scene unharmed, according to local officials.
Neighbors reported hearing shouts and gunfire, and the bodies were found inside the penthouse shortly before midnight. The three‑year‑old girl was shot in the head at close range; two other victims also received head wounds, while one was shot in the back. The domestic worker, aged 21, was among those killed.
The State of Mexico prosecutor’s office said it had arrested two suspects, including an associate of Melendez who may have used his relationship with the musician to gain access to the apartment. The incident has shocked the local community and the music scene, where Camilo Septimo was scheduled to perform in Ciudad Juárez later this month.
