Cinema VinesLollapalooza India 2027 has sparked a heated debate online after the festival organisers revealed the lineup for the fifth edition, set to take place on January 23 and 24 at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse. The announcement, which pairs international headliners with a roster of Indian acts, has drawn mixed reactions from music fans across the country.
Headlining the two‑day event are Grammy‑winning British singer Olivia Dean and American nu‑metal band Limp Bizkit, with additional international performers including KATSEYE, Fontaines D.C., 5 Seconds of Summer, six‑time Grammy winner St. Vincent and Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello. Dean, KATSEYE and 5 Seconds of Summer are scheduled to perform in India for the first time, adding a layer of novelty to the bill.
However, the lineup has not been universally praised. Social media users have compared it unfavourably to previous editions, with one comment calling it the “worst lineup of all time” and another lamenting that the festival “fell off so hard since last year’s lineup.” Several posts described the mix as a “chaotic mess” and questioned the inclusion of certain international acts.
In the midst of the backlash, singer Benny Dayal joined the conversation on Instagram, urging fans to pay equal attention to the Indian artists on the bill. He asked, “What about the Indian acts? Why aren’t you excited for them?” and urged listeners to support local talent by streaming their music, sharing it on social media and buying tickets to see them live. Dayal’s comments highlighted a broader concern about how Indian performers are positioned alongside global stars.
Musician Lisa Mishra also weighed in, noting that the responsibility to promote Indian acts cannot rest solely on the audience. Her remarks added another dimension to the debate, suggesting that the festival’s presentation of local talent needs to be more balanced and supportive.
