Bipasha Basu, the Bollywood actress known for her fitness and style, has spoken out after a wave of body‑shaming comments followed the birth of her daughter with husband Karan Singh Grover. The couple welcomed Devi Basu Singh Grover on November 12, 2022, and the new mother has faced intense online trolling about her post‑pregnancy physique.
In a recent Elle India cover story, Basu reflected on the unrealistic expectations placed on women after childbirth. She said, “The conversation around women’s bodies is quite bizarre even now. Magically, when you give birth, you are supposed to get back into the shape of your twenties even when you are in your forties. What’s expected of a 20‑year‑old is expected of a 40‑year‑old. And if you’re not bouncing back, they’re going to troll you. They’re going to be massively brutal.”
The actress added that she has endured “major, major trolling” and that paparazzi took “really bizarre pictures” of her. She emphasized that many people fail to see the effort a woman puts into caring for a newborn, balancing a career, and managing personal pressures. “Nobody really cares. Everybody expects you to bounce back. I’m an extremely confident person, so no kind of trolling can break me. I know what my journey is, I know what work I need to put in, when I need to put it in, and I will go with that. Outside noise does not really matter,” she said.
Basu has been active on social media, sharing heart‑warming moments with her daughter and her husband. Karan Singh Grover and Basu first met on the set of the film Alone in 2015, and their on‑screen chemistry turned into a romance that led to their marriage in April 2016. They have now celebrated a decade together and the arrival of their child, marking a new chapter in their lives.
Professionally, Basu has recently appeared in the web series Dangerous, a project written by Vikram Bhatt and directed by Bhushan Patel. The series, which also stars Sonali Raut, Natasha Suri, Suyyash Rai and Nitin Arora, was released on MX Player and marks Basu’s debut in the OTT space. She has been away from mainstream films for some time, focusing on her family and fitness advocacy.
