Season 2 of India’s Got Latent, now available on Netflix, drew a mixed crowd in its latest episode when contestant Vijay Poriya from Ahmedabad attempted to break the ice with a series of dog‑related jokes and a reference to the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash that occurred on June 12, 2025. The crash, which involved an Air India flight from Gujarat to London, claimed 12 crew members, 230 passengers, and 19 people on the ground, with only one passenger surviving.

During the show, Poriya tried to lighten the mood by cracking a joke about the crash, prompting host Samay Raina to intervene. Raina asked him, “You have a huge fear of flights, why? Are they very expensive?” and after a brief exchange, he redirected the contestant to a safer topic. Poriya then joked, “They’re quite expensive, man,” which earned a laugh from the panel, including actor Varun Dhawan.

After his set, Poriya expressed a desire to bring live comedy shows to Ahmedabad, saying, “I want the audience to attend live shows in Ahmedabad so we can create a space for comedy.” He requested a shout‑out from Raina, who replied that he had not been able to perform in Ahmedabad due to a lack of permission, adding, “Ahmedabad authorities, if you’re watching this, let me do shows in Ahmedabad.
