Cinema VinesBigg Boss Tamil 10, slated to premiere on Star Vijay and JioHotstar at 6 PM on September 6, has already sparked controversy before the first episode airs. The reality show, hosted by Vijay Sethupathi, has announced that several contestants were eliminated on the very first day of the pre‑show, even before they could step into the house. Among those voted out was YouTuber Prashanth Rangaswamy, who had been building buzz on social media for his upcoming appearance.
Rangaswamy first hinted at his participation on X (formerly Twitter) on September 4, posting, “Good things will happen! Om!” A day later, on September 5, he posted, “Thank you, Muruga! Om!” signalling that he was no longer part of the show. The next day, after reports confirmed his eviction, he thanked his supporters with, “Thank you for all the love and the hate. Now back to work! No regrets or disappointments! It is what it is!” Fellow reality‑TV veteran Sanam Shetty expressed disappointment, saying, “Sorry to hear Prashant! You would have made a fantastic contestant. Hope you are recalled as wildcard.” An X user defended Rangaswamy against trolls, noting that “We don’t know what really happened on that stage. Let people laugh if they want—because you were the one standing on that stage after all those years of effort, while many of those commenting were only watching from outside.”
Rangaswamy’s exit is not the only oddity of the season. The pre‑show, titled Bigg Boss – The Common Man and hosted by Maya S Krishnan, featured judges Oviya, Aari Arujunan and Raju Jeyamohan who selected contestants for the main series. The final list of participants has yet to be released, and the early evictions have added an unpredictable element to the lineup. The show’s theme this year is “Carnivizha,” a carnival‑vibe concept that also extends live voting to international audiences in Singapore, the UK and Canada.
Rangaswamy had previously attracted attention for a legal notice he received from Team Toxic after reviewing the film Geetu Mohandas and Yash’s movie. He tweeted, “Got legal notice from @TheNameIsYash and @KvnProductions for #Toxic review. I thought he is all macho in real life as well. Looks like he is just another rich and influential person!” The incident added to his controversial public profile and may have influenced the producers’ decision to remove him before the house entry.
While the Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada editions of Bigg Boss, hosted respectively by Salman Khan, Nagarjuna, Mohanlal and Kichcha Sudeep, will launch on Sunday, the Tamil edition’s first episode is already generating headlines.
