Mirzapur: The Movie has surged past the ₹70‑crore mark after a blistering opening weekend, with the gangster drama edging closer to ₹100 crore in the coming days. The film, which debuted on 4 September in Hindi and Telugu, has drawn audiences in key markets such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi, traditionally receptive to mass‑action fare. Its first day saw a net haul of ₹25 crore, one of the biggest openings for a Bollywood release this year. Friday’s performance set the stage for a 25 % jump on Saturday, bringing in ₹32 crore and a two‑day total of ₹57.75 crore net.
By midday on the third day, Mirzapur had added another ₹14 crore net, pushing its opening‑weekend collection to ₹71 crore. Morning shows recorded footfalls of about 38 %, a remarkable figure for a film of this scale. Analysts predict the movie will reach the ₹100‑crore threshold by the end of the day and could cross it by Monday, making it one of the fastest‑rising films of the year.
The success of Mirzapur is notable because it has achieved such numbers without the backing of a major star. The ensemble cast—Ali Fazal as Guddu Pandit, Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar (replacing Vikrant Massey as Bablu Pandit), Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Mohitt Maalik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Pramod Pathak, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Shweta Tripathi and Sonal S Chauhan—has resonated with audiences across the country. The film’s success also eclipses the lifetime collections of recent releases such as Alia Bhatt’s Alpha, which earned ₹60 crore.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, and co‑produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani, Mirzapur: The Movie was directed by Gurmeet Singh with a script by Puneet Krishna. Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, the film’s box‑office performance demonstrates that a strong narrative and solid ensemble can compete with the traditional star‑led blockbusters in the current Bollywood landscape.
