The first ceremony focused on variety, reality and nonfiction programs, along with a number of technical categories, and was marked by a record haul of wins for the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show starring Bad Bunny.
Three performers claimed their first Emmys that night. Puerto Rican singer‑rapper Bad Bunny took home Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for the Super Bowl halftime show, which ended up the biggest winner of the evening with seven trophies. American singer‑songwriter Sabrina Carpenter earned Outstanding Variety Special (Pre‑Recorded) for her appearance on The Muppet Show, while Oscar‑winning actress Octavia Spencer secured Outstanding Narrator for Lost Women of Alaska.
Other notable individual victories included Jimmy Kimmel’s second consecutive win for Outstanding Host for a Game Show for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Alan Cumming’s award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for The Traitors, and Desi Lydic’s win for Outstanding Performer in a Short‑Form Comedy or Drama Series for The Daily Show: Desi Lydic Foxsplains. Mariska Hargitay added two Emmys for her documentary My Mom Jayne: A Film by Mariska Hargitay, capturing Outstanding Directing for a Documentary/Nonfiction Program and Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special.
On the program side, The Traitors led the night with six awards, followed by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which collected five in its final season. The Muppet Show earned four, Love on the Spectrum received three, and shows such as Antiques Roadshow, Ocean with David Attenborough and My Mom Jayne picked up multiple honors. Jeopardy! also took home Outstanding Game Show.
The opening night was just the start of the Emmy festivities. The second ceremony will take place on September 6, and the Creative Arts nights will be combined into a single broadcast on FXX on September 12. The main 78th Emmy Awards, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, will be held on September 14 at the Peacock Theater and will air live on NBC and Peacock.
