The gangster‑drama, which hit screens on 4 September, crossed the ₹100‑crore threshold during its opening weekend, a milestone rarely achieved by a Hindi feature without a marquee star.
India has been the backbone of the film’s success. On Friday, the first day of release, it netted ₹25 crore, buoyed by a strong response in the mass‑centred markets of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Saturday saw a jump of more than 25 %, with the film earning ₹32 crore, and Sunday brought another surge to ₹36 crore. The three‑day haul amounted to ₹93.75 crore net (₹112.35 crore gross). Occupancy for the Hindi version hovered around 67 % on Sunday, with night‑time shows approaching 75 % full across the country.
Internationally, Mirzapur’s performance has been solid, especially after a slow start. By Sunday, overseas collections had reached $2.1 million, largely from North America and the Middle East, boosting the worldwide total to ₹132 crore. The overseas numbers helped the film climb into the top‑10 highest‑grossing Hindi releases of the year, landing it in the eighth spot.
The box‑office climb has also pushed other titles out of the top‑10. Alpha, the Alia Bhatt‑starrer that earned ₹98 crore worldwide, slipped from the list, while Mirzapur surpassed the lifetime totals of Main Vaapas Aaunga (₹99 crore) and Raja Shivaji (₹130 crore). It also outpaced the devotional hit Hanuman Ansh, which stood at ₹125 crore as of Sunday, by taking the lead in day‑to‑day collections.
Mirzapur: The Movie is a joint venture of Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, with co‑producers Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani. The cast features Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, and Divyenndu, with Jitendra Kumar stepping into the role of Bablu Pandit, previously played by Vikrant Massey on the television series. The movie is available in both Hindi and Telugu, and has already established itself as a certified blockbuster in the domestic market.
