Cinema VinesIndian singer Kailash Kher has publicly urged the public to exercise greater sensitivity and politeness in the wake of a heated debate over jokes about Bihar and Kashmir on the comedy show “India’s Got Latent.” Speaking to ANI, the singer warned that comedy, like music, should be disciplined and respectful, saying that “if your tune is not correct, you may end up making fun of someone.” He stressed the need for people to stay “alert” (chaitanye) and courteous (tameez) in all conversations, adding that everyone knows how to live, laugh, and win hearts when they behave politely.
The comments came after a controversial episode of the show’s second season, during which comedian Samay Raina made a joke about panelist Sharon Verma’s Bihari background. Verma replied with a jab about Raina’s Kashmiri roots, sparking a backlash that drew political attention. Shiv Sena leader Anand Dubey criticized Raina’s routine, arguing that comedians should avoid bringing caste, state, or religious identities into their acts.
Kailash Kher reflected on his own career, noting that he has always tried to conduct himself politely despite the criticism, envy, and hostility that can accompany fame. “There will be critics, there will be haters, there will be jealous people. Then you will realise that you have come so far,” he said, emphasizing that the journey to success is often marked by such challenges.
In his remarks, Kher highlighted the importance of maintaining decorum in public discourse, especially in an era where social media amplifies every joke and comment. He called on audiences to remember that comedy should entertain without crossing lines that disrespect regional identities or cultural sensitivities.
