Cinema VinesParvathy, the National Award‑winning Malayalam actress, has publicly addressed rumours that she had unfollowed her long‑time friend and director Geetu Mohandas on Instagram. The speculation surfaced after the release of Geetu’s 2023 directorial debut, Toxic, which starred Yash and received largely negative reviews. Parvathy told Galatta Plus that the unfollow was a personal decision and that there was “nothing to make a news out of it.” She added that the incident appears to be part of a broader attempt to pit women against each other in the industry, a tactic she says she will no longer tolerate.
The two actresses have been close for years, even after the 2016 controversy surrounding the Malayalam film Kasaba. Parvathy had criticised a scene in the film for being misogynistic and questioned superstar Mammootty’s delivery of a dialogue. Geetu, who was seated beside Parvathy at the time, urged her to name the film. Despite the drama, the friendship endured, which makes the unfollow episode all the more surprising to fans.
Parvathy explained that the “WCC” (Women’s Community Council) and other industry forces sometimes encourage women to split up, making it easy for outsiders to create drama. She insisted that the focus should remain on the films themselves rather than personal disagreements. “I completely refuse to bite into it,” she said, underscoring her desire to keep professional relationships intact.
In addition to her work in Malayalam cinema—such as Take Off, Uyire, Qarib Qarib Single, Charlie, Maryan, and Bangalore Days—Parvathy has appeared in Tamil films like Thangalaan and Her. She is set to feature in the upcoming Malayalam movies Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar and I, Nobody, and will star in Hrithik Roshan’s first production, The Storm, a high‑stakes thriller for Prime Video produced by HRX Films. The series, directed by Ajitpal Singh, will also star Alaya F, Srishti Shrivastava, Rrama Sharma, and Saba Azad.
