Cinema VinesAfter a life‑changing stroke in November 2020, Bollywood veteran Rahul Roy has turned to wedding performances to keep his finances afloat. The actor, who first shot to fame with the 1990 hit Aashiqui, revealed in a recent interview with the Times of India that he has been dancing at events for anywhere between ₹2 lakh and ₹4 lakh per engagement, a stark contrast to the lucrative roles he once commanded.
Roy’s health crisis began while filming LAC – Live The Battle in Kargil. He was rushed to Srinagar and later transferred to Mumbai’s Nanavati Hospital, where he spent several days in intensive care. The stroke left him unable to work for five years, a period he described as a “break” during which he had no income and struggled to rebuild his life.
Financially, the actor is battling a ₹30 lakh legal case that he and his brother are trying to settle. He also mentioned a past divorce that saw him transfer assets to his ex‑wife, further complicating his economic situation. “I have expenses, and I need the money,” Roy said, emphasizing that his wedding gigs are a necessary means to earn a living.
Despite these hardships, Roy remains optimistic about his career. He recalled his earlier success, noting his win on the first season of Bigg Boss in 2007, which earned him a ₹1 crore prize. He is now working on new projects, including the psychological drama Agra (released November 2025) and the upcoming Kuku TV series Super Badshah, where he will play an underworld don alongside Karanvir Bohra.
Speaking candidly, Roy expressed gratitude for the support he has received and his determination to “create my empire from scratch.” He hopes that his return to the screen and his continued work at weddings will pave the way for a stronger future, both personally and professionally.
