Mirzapur: The Movie, the cinematic spin‑off of the hit Amazon Prime series, has continued to impress at the box office, crossing the ₹120 crore threshold by its fifth day of release. The gangster drama, featuring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Rasika Dugal and a host of returning and new characters, opened to strong reviews and a robust opening weekend that saw collections of ₹32 crore on Saturday and ₹36 crore on Sunday, before dipping to ₹16.24 crore on Monday. By Tuesday, the film had added another ₹11.59 crore, bringing the net India total to ₹121.34 crore.
The film’s performance has been particularly remarkable in the heartland, with an opening day haul of ₹25.75 crore that eclipsed other releases such as Saiyara (₹22 crore) and Awarapan 2 (₹21.50 crore). Trade analysts had initially pegged the opening at ₹18–20 crore, making the actual earnings a surprise for both fans and distributors. The bulk of the revenue has come from the original Hindi version, underscoring the film’s wide appeal across language markets.
Set in 2018, the story follows the struggle for power in the lawless city of Mirzapur, with new contenders entering the fray. Ali Fazal reprises his role, while Pankaj Tripathi, Divyenndu and Jitendra Kumar (taking over from Vikrant Massey as Bablu Pandit) head the cast. The film also introduces Ravi Kishan, and brings back familiar faces such as Abhishek Banerjee, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur and Shweta Tripathi.
Produced by Excel Entertainment under the banner of Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, and co‑produced by Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani, the movie is directed by Gurmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. It is presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment. Pankaj Tripathi spoke to ANI about the transition from the OTT platform to the big screen, noting the change in scale: “The landscape is new, and the scale is bigger. People would have seen it on a 5‑inch to a 100‑inch screen. It was individual viewing. Now, it is coming for community viewing. Four hundred to five hundred people will see it together, and the screen is much bigger—20 to 30 feet.”
With steady earnings and a growing audience, Mirzapur: The Movie is proving that the franchise’s reach extends beyond digital platforms, cementing its place in India’s cinematic landscape.
