Amitabh Bachchan Calls KBC Season 18 ‘Heart‑Breaking’; New Theme Urges Deep Thought

Amitabh Bachchan has once again taken the helm of Sony Entertainment Television’s flagship quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), with the launch of Season 18 on August 10 at 9 p.m. The new season airs every weekday and is also available on Sony LIV. The veteran actor’s return has been met with enthusiasm, as he brings his trademark charisma and warmth to the program.

Season 18 introduces a fresh theme titled “Sochna Padega,” which translates to “You’ll Have to Think.” The concept aims to shift the focus from quick, instinctive answers to thoughtful decision‑making, a response to an era where information is abundant but discernment is scarce. Bachchan himself has emphasized that the show now celebrates the ability to understand, apply and analyze knowledge, rather than simply recalling facts.

During the launch, Bachchan shared his perspective on the emotional weight of the show. In a recent post on his personal Tumblr account, he admitted that “some contestants come with such grave personal stories that it becomes difficult to conduct not just our feelings for them but also to continue hosting the show.” He described the experience as “heart‑breaking,” while noting that the emotional depth is an integral part of the program’s appeal.

The promotion for the new season featured a golf‑themed video in which Bachchan compares life to a game of golf, underscoring the importance of patience and careful judgment over hasty action. He encourages viewers to pause before answering, reminding them that the first response is not always the correct one. The promo reinforces the season’s central message: “Sochna Padega.”

Alongside his hosting duties, Bachchan is set to appear in Nag Ashwin’s sequel to “Kalki 2898 AD,” a science‑fiction film that already achieved a worldwide box‑office haul of over ₹1,000 crore. The sequel also stars Prabhas and Kamal Haasan, and production is underway following the success of the original installment.
