Fans of Tamil cinema have been buzzing as the spy‑action sequel Sardar 2 begins its pre‑sale campaign ahead of its scheduled September 10 release. Within just 24 hours of opening advance bookings on BookMyShow, the film has already secured nearly 16,000 tickets, a figure that underscores the strong interest in Karthi’s return to the screen.
The numbers, reported by industry tracker Cinee Worldd on X, reflect activity on BookMyShow alone and do not encompass sales from other platforms or theatres. Nonetheless, the early surge is a promising sign that the sequel, which follows the 2022 original, will generate a solid opening weekend.
Karthi headlines the cast in a dual role, joined by Rajisha Vijayan who reprises her character from the first film. The ensemble also features S. J. Suryah, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath and the comic relief Yogi Babu. Director P. S. Mithran, who also conceived the story and characters, leads the project while the screenplay is credited to Nambi with additional input from Rathna Kumar, Ashameera Aiyappan and Vignesh Muniyandi.
The production is a joint effort between Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment, with S. Lakshman Kumar and Ishan Saksena as producers and A. Venkatesh serving as co‑producer. Musical duties are handled by Sam CS, marking his 100th film as a composer, and a track was also contributed by OfRo. Technical credits include cinematographer George C. Williams, editor Vijay Velukutty, production designer Rajeevan Nambiar, stunt coordinators Dhilip Subbarayan and Chethan D'Souza, sound designer Tapas Nayak, colourist Prasath Somasekar, and VFX work by Mind Stein Studios and Dheera Studios.
Sony Music India has secured the music rights for the film. As the release date draws nearer, industry observers expect the pre‑sale figures to offer an early gauge of audience enthusiasm, though the final box‑office performance will ultimately hinge on ticket sales across all platforms, theatre availability, occupancy rates and how the film performs in individual markets.
