Cinema VinesPushkar Jog, who first appeared as a child actor in the 1995 Hindi action thriller Hum Dono, has recounted a distressing incident that occurred on the film’s set when he was just seven years old. According to Jog, the renowned actor Rishi Kapoor scolded him in front of the crew, an event that left the young actor visibly upset.
Jog explained that he had been cast by Nana Patekar without an audition, a decision that stemmed from their shared roots in Pune. He described his first day on set as intimidating, noting that Kapoor was “very reserved, not talking much, and he had an aura.” The veteran actor’s stern demeanor, combined with Jog’s inexperience, contributed to the tension that culminated in Kapoor’s sharp reprimand. Jog recalled Kapoor’s words: “Who have you got on the set? Who is this? At least teach him something before bringing him here.”
After the confrontation, Jog said that Farah Khan stepped in to soothe him, while his mother remained frightened by Kapoor’s behaviour. However, the incident did not go unnoticed by Patekar. Jog recounted that Patekar confronted Kapoor immediately, calling out his treatment of a child actor. “He blasted Rishi Kapoor sir, he gave it back to him. He said, ‘Whoever you are, don’t you know how to treat a child? He is a 7‑year‑old kid, how would he know about take and rehearsal? Why would you shout at him?’” Patekar’s response, Jog said, was delivered with “kindness and audacity” in front of Kapoor.
Despite the altercation, Jog maintains a respectful view of both actors, stating, “We all still love him and respect him.” The film, directed by Shafi Inamdar in his sole directorial effort, also starred Pooja Bhatt. Rishi Kapoor, who passed away on 30 April 2020 at the age of 67 after a two‑year battle with leukemia, remains a celebrated figure in Indian cinema.
