Ajay Devgn returns for Drishyam finale; declares it a fresh story from Malayalam version

Ajay Devgn is set to reprise his role as Vijay Salgaonkar in the final chapter of the Hindi Drishyam saga, titled Drishyam The Conclusion. The trailer, released on Wednesday, promises to wrap up the series’ intricate tale of family protection and clever deception that has kept audiences on the edge of their seats since the franchise’s debut in 2015.

During the launch event, Devgn clarified that the new film is not a continuation of the Malayalam version’s storyline, which stars Mohanlal as the lead. He explained that while the second Hindi installment drew some inspiration from the original, this third film follows an entirely different script. "It’s not like we have made a lot of changes; it’s an entirely different story," he said, emphasizing that the plot will unfold with fresh twists and turns rather than a mere retelling.

Devgn also praised director Abhishek Pathak, noting the director’s growth in handling the Drishyam narrative. He highlighted Pathak’s skill in shaping the script and execution, adding that he hopes the film will earn the approval of Mohanlal’s own director Jeethu Joseph and the actor himself. Pathak, who co‑writes the film with Aamil Keeyan Khan and Parveez Shaikh, is backed by Star Studio18 and Panorama Studios.

The cast returns with familiar faces: Tabu reprises her role as IG Meera Deshmukh, Shriya Saran returns as Nandini, and Rajat Kapoor is back in a supporting role. New additions include Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat, who take on fresh characters that will influence the story’s climax.

Financially, the Hindi Drishyam franchise has been a blockbuster. The original 2015 remake grossed approximately ₹110 crore worldwide, while Drishyam 2, released in 2022, earned nearly ₹342 crore globally. Meanwhile, the Malayalam series continues its momentum, with Drishyam 3 hitting theatres on May 21, 2026, and raking in about ₹43.37 crore worldwide at launch, eventually surpassing ₹242 crore to become the highest‑earning installment in the franchise.
