Cinema VinesVedika Pinto, the 30‑year‑old actress who recently gained widespread attention for her role as Sudha in the web series Musafir Cafe, has clarified that her rise to prominence is not a sudden overnight event but the culmination of a decade of work. In an interview, she reflected on the long journey that led to the series’ success and explained how she plans to navigate her career moving forward.
Pinto explained that while the buzz around Musafir Cafe made her seem like a new star, the reality is that it took ten years of perseverance. She said, “Overnight success? No. It took 10 years. One was done overnight — everything, like in terms of recognition. But it didn’t happen overnight. It took 10 years.” She added that each opportunity has built on the last, creating a chain that finally brought her to the spotlight.
Having appeared in Ritviz’s music video “Liggi” and films such as Operation Romeo (2022) and Gumraah (2023), Pinto is now focused on choosing roles that differ from the audience’s previous perception of her. She stated, “I also feel like I have the liberty to pick a choice that challenges me as an actor. So right now, what’s exciting to me is to do something that is quite polarising to Sudha.” She acknowledges that early in her career she considered sticking to the genre that had worked for her, but the confidence gained from Musafir Cafe has opened up possibilities for experimentation.
In addition to seeking variety, Pinto is determined not to be pigeonholed into a single type of character. She warned against the industry’s tendency to stereotype actors after a successful role, saying, “Stars are very, very commonly stereotyped. After one character works really well, they will be like, ‘Oh, he can only do this.’ But I want to break that.” While commercial success remains important, she emphasized that it is not the sole measure of a good performance. “I have had a series of characters that I have played that I am very proud of, but unfortunately, they have not resonated with the people. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that I am proud of them,” she noted.
One of Pinto’s most significant disappointments has been the 2025 film Nishaanchi, directed by Anurag Kashyap, in which she portrayed Rinku. She expressed pride in the project but also frustration that it did not connect with audiences: “That’s a movie I am so proud of. I am so proud to be a part of that film. Rinku is such a special character to me. But unfortunately, it didn’t work, and people just didn’t resonate. But it’s okay, because you know what, that’s just the game.” Despite the commercial failure, she remains committed to honing her craft and proving herself as a versatile actor.
